Fingerless shearling gloves, to be exact. Since returning to a colder climate, I’ve had to make some serious upgrades to my wardrobe . Gloves are one of the last things one thinks about after, you know, pants and socks and coats – things I forgot about during my time in California. Gloves seem by nature to have been designed for functionality, and are almost universally utilitarian.
I wanted to find something that would keep my hands warm and look good. Fingerless was a no-brainer: I hate the bulky look of traditional gloves or mittens, and absolutely require the use of my fingers and fingertips throughout the day. And since I’ve been having a minor love affair with shearling* this winter, that was an obvious choice, too. Below is a lustworthy list of styles available this season:
*Shearling refers to the pelt of a yearling sheep whose wool has been shorn just once, and to a uniform depth. I have made the personal decision to use and wear animal materials like fur and leather in my life for a number of reasons. You have the right to make your own decisions and I am not suggesting these products are inherently better than alternatives.
