All right, I have to admit – my limited experience with needlework means I would have guessed these were crocheted rather than knit. But it doesn’t take an advanced knowledge of the form to appreciate these amazing pieces from Japanese fiber artist Itoamika Jung Jung. I came across them over on the blog of Eva Juliet, who is not just perpetually fabulous, but also happened to design the Plant Propaganda logo, as well.
Jung Jung creates amazingly detailed representations of fruits, vegetables and flowers with no more than a pair of needles, in colors and fibers that could be straight from the earth themselves. I love the idea that something that might have come from cotton and been dyed with cabbage is refashioned into an eggplant or artichoke – it speaks to the cyclic nature of plants and the way they can be multipurposed.
