Martin Klimas is a German-born photographer who loves to break things. And in his series Flowervases, guess what’s being broken? Klimas uses a high-speed camera to capture the exact moment a vase is shattered when shot with a steel ball. He is interested in this second of suspended animation, where the flowers atop remain serene as chaos erupts below. Klimas blows apart the traditional still life by juxtaposing motion with stillness, breathing new life into otherwise conventional images.
